The cottage was welcoming and well presented, the facilities were spotless. Amble and convenient parking after a long drive. The surrounding areas are picturesque and peaceful. Eileen greeted us on arrival and even made sure there was milk in the fridge for a cuppa!

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the cottages. We love it for its location. Eileen is a brilliant host, should you need anything happy to oblige. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need.

Visit to Forest of Dean for mountain biking (downhill trails and circular routes). Hour from Bike Park Wales, great day out for mountain biking trails for all abilities.

A friendly and helpful welcome by Eileen got our short break off to a flying start. the cottage made us realize that living in a two bed bungalow with all mod cons that we need to move from our overly big house. everything you could possibly need to self cater was provided in abundance.

Quiet, private and relaxing location. Fully equipped kitchen. Cosy and attractive furnishings. Parking next to cottage. Helpful and friendly hosts within walking distance. Within the Forest, so can walk from the cottage or short drive to all the Forest locations and great walking/biking opportunities. Also on the road to Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. We return year on year.

If you enjoy walking: the 3 mines trails are interesting and there’s also a number of walks from Mallard’s Pike. Colliers trail (biking) also link to walks and Gloucestershire Way. Some walking books in the cottage for more options. Recommend Truffles in Ross-on-Wye for lunch. Also a good shopping location. We hear old train tunnel from Chepstow to Tintern is open, so we’ll be trying that next year!

Eileen so friendly and welcoming. So many thoughtful touches in the cottage. A tea tray would be useful for carrying drinks and food into the garden. Lovely peaceful garden.

Cowshed Cottage provided an ideal base for exploring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley by bicycle. While feeling quite remote (no traffic noise!) it’s also conveniently close to Coleford for shops and eateries. Eileen is a very friendly and helpful host.
